Christian Science Church names new Spokesman

The Board of Directors of the Christian Science Church named Russ Gerber, CSB, the Manager of Committees on Publication for the Christian Science Church. In this role, Gerber oversees the church's media and legislative affairs, and will often serve as church spokesman.

The Committee on Publication is primarily responsible for correcting misinformation on Christian Science. As Manager of this office, Gerber will guide the church's 135 representatives located throughout the world as they engage with journalists and with federal, state and local lawmakers.

Russ Gerber has a long history of service to Christian Science. For more than twenty years he has been a practitioner of the religion, devoting his full time as a healer available to the public. He also holds a teaching degree from the Church and teaches annually a class on Christian Science, an in-depth study of spiritual healing based on the teachings of the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, the textbook of Christian Science authored by the Church's founder Mary Baker Eddy.

Gerber has held a number of editorial and management roles at the church's administrative headquarters in Boston. He joined the Christian Science Monitor's Radio and TV Broadcasts as Program Manager in 1985. He went on to serve as Associate Editor for the Christian Science religious periodicals, and then became Managing Editor of Broadcasting. During this 20-year period, Christian Scientists around the globe also got to know Russ as the voice of Sentinel Radio, the church's weekly radio broadcast, which airs on local radio stations throughout the world. He moved into the Committee on Publication three years ago, as Media Manager.

According to Board Chairperson Mary Trammell, "Russ is well equipped to take on this broader role as Committee Manager. His clear, thoughtful approach to communicating with the public, along with his deep love and knowledge of Christian Science, will bring great leadership to an office at the forefront of the church's interactions with non-church members."

Gerber succeeds Phil Davis, who is returning to the Chicago area to focus on his own healing practice. Davis is a Christian Science practitioner and teacher based in Illinois. The change took effect November 22.
